Missing trekker on Dzongri route yet to be traced GANGTOK, 2 Jan 2015: Young trekker Biswadeep Acharya who had gone missing on the famous Dzongri trekking route in Sikkim on December 27 is yet to be traced. A search and rescue mission initiated by Sikkim Police started two days ago has not yet yielded any result yet. Biswadeep who hailed from Jharkhand and was studying in a college in Kolkata was on his maiden visit to Sikkim. Aacharya along with his friends had set out on a trekking expedition along the famous Dzongri trekking route from Yoksom. Police sources said the youth went missing from the trail between Preak Bridge and Bakhim Route. The police have also called in sniffer dog squad to help with the search operation, but no positive results have come out so far. It was learnt that Biswadeep who was walking along with a few others in a trek organized by an agency had fallen behind and had asked the guides to proceed and said he would catch up later. An alarm was raised when he failed to turn up at the camping site for the evening. The place where Biswadeep had gone missing was a forested one with the presence of wild animals. There were deep gorges, too, and it was easy to lose way. (HS) [EOI]
