Missouri law gives candidates for public office the opportunity to request a recount at the candidate’s expense when an election contest margin of victory falls within 1% of the total votes cast for the office. Rick Stream lost by 0.6% in an extremely close contest. Through much consultation with our legal team and other election experts in the community regarding the extremely close outcome, as well as multiple voting irregularities, shortages of ballots, and voter complaints on Election Day, we are asking for a recount to ensure each vote was counted. We believe the recount process will serve to address problematic areas in Election Day operations and will assist the Board of Elections in identifying any additional issues to ensure accurate and fair voting in the future.
