Monday, June 17, 2013 Today in our world there are some people with outrageous wealth who live in opulence beyond our imagination. The 2 Chronicles 9 description of King Solomon’s world is almost beyond belief. God had promised to bless him with wisdom for leadership as King of Israel, and vs. 23 indicates that wisdom was known world-wide! It is important you read 1 Kings 11 as the sad editorial of the demise of King Solomon! Eventhough he wrote Prov. 4:23, and his father David had warned him about God watching the motives of his heart, Solomon’s heart was drawn away from God and he actually built, all around Jerusalem, small temples filled with idols for his foreign wives! Look closely to see what drew Solomon’s heart away from God and what disasters followed. 2 Chronicles 10 is a major turning point in history. King Solomon’s son Rehoboam inherited the throne of Israel and the opportunity to right the sinking ship… but instead his youthful pride and ambition turned him away from wise counsel. But look closely at vs. 15. It is a reference to what happened in 1 Kings 11. “So this king did not listen to the people for this turn of events was from God… ” This fundamental principle stands: God cannot bless sin and He will not be mocked by His people. He is patient, merciful, and loving… but He is also just and holy. Solomon had a remarkable beginning in his encounter with God at Gibeon (2 Chron. 1), but like his father David, his heart was drawn to women and in his passion for them Solomon was unwise, weak-willed, and turned from Jehovah God. No longer trustworthy to lead His people, God removed His hand of blessing from Solomon and the nation of Israel moved toward civil war. Can we make the application to our own lives my friends? Whatwould cause God to remove His hand of blessing from you or me? Are we falling into either Solomon’s trap or Rehoboam’s? Digging Deeper ~ Pastor Doug Anderson
