Moon and Motown It is the first long weekend of the Summer and there are a lot of reasons to come to Hubbards. The weekend kicks off Friday night with CoveFM Birthdaypalooza at the Shore Club from 8 pm – Midnight. This will be the biggest birthday party in Hubbards history. It is aimed at anyone who is celebrating a milestone birthday in 2014, and everyone who has a birthday is invited. There will be lots of finger foods and a giant birthday cake. It will be Happy Hour all night long, and on stage will be the CoveFM All-Stars featuring Wayne Nicholson, Peter Grant, Paul Lucas, John Cole Porter, Jason & Amy Reid, Dave Anderson, Gary Steffan, Peter Dominey and many more. Admission is a free-will donation to CoveFM, which is currently in the process of obtaining a full time community broadcasting license for the Bay area. On Saturday night, the Shore Club is very pleased to present the amazing Sounds of Motown. This powerful 13 piece band features 5 singers including Shore Club favourite Sam Moon, 4 horns and a tight rhythm section. The name of the band is very appropriate because they sing all the great Motown hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s with flawless presentation. This will be their only appearance at the Shore Club this summer, and it is a show you don’t want to miss. I guarantee you will be on the dance floor all night long, and you will know all the words to all of the songs. On Saturday night the doors open at 9:30 with dancing from 10:00 – 1:30. Tickets are $13 and are only available at the door. OR you can enjoy the Shore Club Lobster Supper before the dance and you can avoid any line up and purchase your ticket with your meal. The Lobster suppers are held every Saturday and Sunday in May and right now both lobsters and mussels are at their absolute finest – very full of meat. Reservations for the Lobster Supper can be made by calling 857-9555. At The Trellis Cafe this weekend, George Caissie and John Dewolf perform on Friday night for the popular Dinner & Entertainment, while on Saturday night Fran Doyle brings his Irish ballads to the stage. Reservations can be made by calling 857-1188. On Saturday morning (8:00 am – Noon) head for The Barn for the weekly Farmers Market. Come out and meet the new vendors and drop in and visit all the regulars. Entertaining this week is John Cahill, Tom Myers and Barry Redmond from 8 – 10 am, and then Too Many Strings take over from 10:00 – Noon. There is lots of free parking on site as well as the Hubbards Shopping Centre and AHT building. On Sunday afternoon starting at 1:30, the Hubbards Area Lions Club will be hosting an afternoon of Country music. The MC will be Gene Rodgers from the CoveFM Chuck Wagon Show, and he will introduce Country Side of Bluegrass, Kitchen Country, Cye & the Guys, Ernie Rafuse and Brecken Hills. Tickets are $7.00 and there will be a canteen and a 50/50 draw. We would like to welcome back all the seasonal residents at Hubbards Beach Campground, as it reopens for the season this long weekend.
