Moral nihilism is the idea that there isnt any such thing as right - TopicsExpress

Moral nihilism is the idea that there isnt any such thing as right and wrong or good and evil, at least outside of arbitrary human evaluations. Nothing in the structure or composition of the universe means that you should or shouldnt do something, that you are or are not entitled to something. There is no external standard to judge our actions and all judgments about what is right or wrong are arbitrary, based on human goals, emotions and values (which differ greatly across the world and through time). Is it the idea that actions dont have consequences? No. The laws of physics still apply. Are those conequences based on how naughty or nice you have been? No, except perhaps where other humans respond to you as they see fit. Do moral nihilists have opinions? Yes. What people call morals are just that, opinions. People in general dont like murder, but it is just an opinion. The only difference is that a nihilist managed to figure out that their opinion isnt supported by some mystical force in the universe which magically agrees with them and which will use karma or something to change things for the better. If you want to know whether something is right or wrong, ask the sun, ask a cheese grater, ask your bed. They dont care. The universe doesnt care what you do either way. Humans sometimes care, but they dont all agree with each other and choosing either way is just a matter of opinion.
