Moral question I was hoping for some help with. When you stand - TopicsExpress

Moral question I was hoping for some help with. When you stand for election to District Council you need ten local people who live in the area to sign as your nominees. These people are essentially signing to say that they consider you a person of the appropriate moral character and ability to be an elected representative. Obviously this confers a moral obligation on those nominees to be sure you are what they are signing to say you are. My question is - do you as the candidate have any moral obligation the other way? Should you be looking for nominees with the same sort of standards? In short - do you have an obligation to try and pick honest, decent people as your nominees? Im not talking about legally, im talking about a moral obligation. Ive always thought you DO and I always try to do so. Obviously theres a limit to what you can know about people, but I do think that your choice of nominees reflects your own judgement. But somebody suggested to me today you have NO obligation to check your nominees at all. I wondered what you all think about this?
