More news tonite - wreckage sighted in Indian Ocean. To be investigated... Tonite, I tried to imagine myself as someone with a personal connection to a passenger. One cannot KNOW how such a trial would affect us...but I think my instinct would have been to find acceptance for the loss, to accommodate my grief and rage and helplessness. if by some miracle I were proved wrong, Id accept that shock with gratitude. If this debris is indeed wreckage from our lost plane, that would resolve one issue but raise many others. The passengers are gone. Why they died we hope to learn in time to come...but they are truly gone. Closure is a genuine human emotional need. We seek first certainty and then an acceptance of that certainty. This new evidence may turn out to be not conclusive. That would offer hope of survival - false hope or not. Try to imagine the existence of any MIA veterans family. Their loved one has gone missing. They pray for his safe return...but please - at least his remains. Most of all, they yearn for closure. That is now this moment-to-moment, realtime existence for the families of the 239 passengers on that flight. Their plight remains this troubling, wrenching, seemingly endless deathwatch.
