More thoughts about family tonight, especially at the holiday season... There are often times in your life when, for whatever reason, you cant be with some of the people youd like to be with at a certain time. Maybe theres a thing you have to be doing. Maybe youve chosen to be with other people who are *also* important to you, and you just cant be in two places at once. Maybe others have made choices that you have to accept, even if you wish those choices had worked out differently. Whatever the reason, there comes a time when your thoughts travel to the people who arent with you... and it adds a poignant note to the holiday. Doesnt have to make it bad, but its definitely something to make you think about what you have and who is important to you. With this song, I always find myself thinking of my father. It was always wonderful to spend the holidays with him, even when he was desperately ill. Oddly enough, I dont associate it with Mom -- my Christmas memories of her are closely tied to carols like Silent Night, or goofy songs like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. I just have fond memories of coming home and seeing the look on his face when I came in the door, or when he picked me up at the airport.
