Morning Inspiration: As He walked along, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at his tax collection booth. Come, be my disciple, Jesus said to him. So Levi got up and followed Him. Mark 2:14 This seemingly simple passage, has deep meaning, and sets the stage for major changes in the life of Levi, and those he knew. Most the Jews hated tax collectors, because they were known to overcharge and cheat them, and were loyal to the Roman government. So it came as a shock to many, that Jesus, a Jew Himself, hand picked someone despised by the public, to be one of His followers. Little did they know how much, walking with Jesus would change that man, and millions of others throughout history. Levi, also known as Matthew, listened carefully in his time with the Lord, and later wrote the Gospel of Matthew, describing all he witnessed. Still today, Jesus calls those the world would never expect, to Come, follow me. Those of us who answer His call, regardless of our past, are always amazed at how He uses our lives to continue changing the world.
