Morning Rant: History parallel’s itself. On a sunny, tropical December, 1941 morning in Honolulu, military bases of the United States were suddenly attacked by imperial forces of Japan. Close to three thousand people were killed in that surprise attack. This precipitated America’s entry into World War II and forever changed lives in the world. On a sunny, cloudless September, 2001 morning in New York, and in Washington, D.C., the United States was again attacked this time by Islamic Jihadists intent on destroying the American way of life. This precipitated America’s entry into the “war on terror” and forever changed lives in the world. While after the cost of millions of lives, one empire was defeated but the fight against the other goes on. According to the 9/11 Commission Report, it was originally planned that about a dozen aircraft were to be hijacked and flown into various targets around the United States including the Capitol and the White House. Investigation has suggested that the airplane that crashed in Pennsylvania was headed to the White House. I remember my parents telling me what they were doing on Dec. 7, 1941. Television was not around yet but radio was in its’ heyday. Our generation will tell their offspring of what we were doing on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. 9/11 will forever be remembered as this generation’s “Pearl Harbor.” Many people, including over three hundred police and firefighters lost their lives while selflessness performing their duties. 9/11 will forever become a memorial to their performance. Sometime today, stop and say a little prayer to their memory and if you see an officer or firefighter, thank them for what they do in keeping us safe. Just My Opinion!
