Morning, my people. I need your assistance please. A few months ago I requested a Tax Consultant from East London to process my tax returns on my personal FNB account, because I dont want to risk doing something Im not qualified or conversant in. I sent him all relevant documents and he indicated that hed do it. This morning I received an email, apparently from SARS. The subject on the email reads: returns approved. The email source is [email protected] The email reads: Your returns has been filed and an epayment made to you by Sars eFiling. Confirm epayment (This is highlighted in blue and is a link) When I click onto the link I get a message that reads: Welcome to SARS eFiling! A payment of R.... (amount shown) has been made into your account from SARS eFiling In other to process and confirm this payment, please click on the financial institution you bank with. Notice: Your log-in details will be verified. To confirm the payment so it reflects in your account, your account will be verified for security reasons. It then shows logos of all major banks in South Afrika, which you can click onto. I did, and the home-pages appear legitimate. I didnt continue to verify my account or anything because Im wary of doing any transaction that requires that I verify my bank details online. Also, because Im so strict about writing, I want to believe that an institution like SARS wouldnt send emails with grammatical, syntax and spelling errors, and I noted that the message reads: in other as opposed to in order. It could be a minor detail or it could be something telling. I need your advise on whether this email is legit. Should I continue the process or just go to SARS offices in the Joburg CBD upon my return to the country on Monday and ask them if this is indeed authentic? Your help would be greatly appreciated.
