Morning update: Size: 97,099 acres Containment: 92% Estimated Containment Date: October 4, 2014 Total Personnel Assigned: 3,153 Current Situation Zone 1 (north portion): Today fire crews will continue mopping up, pulling excess hose and pumps, chipping brush and repairing lines constructed during fire suppression. The potential for fire spread remains extremely low. Excess resources will continue to be demobilized or reassigned to Zone 2. Current Situation Zone 2 (south portion): To make roads safe for public travel, fire crews are removing hazardous trees, chipping brush and removing road debris as roads dry out from recent rains. Roads identified as high priority for road repair are: Wentworth Spring, White Meadows Road, Ice House Road, Eleven Pines Road and Mosquito Road. Several crews are constructing fire line in an active fire area near an unburned island of fuel within the containment line on the southwest portion of the fire. Other crews are repairing handline and dozer line constructed during fire suppression activity and removing excess fire equipment such as hose, pumps, and tanks. Firefighters continue mop up and patrol. Warmer and drier conditions along with gusty northeasterly winds starting Tuesday night will produce increased fire activity which expected to stay well within the interior of the fire perimeter. Later today the Eldorado National Forest is planning to release a new closure order which will reduce the size of the closure area currently in effect for public safety. The King fire is being managed in Unified Command with the Eldorado National Forest and CAL FIRE. Zone 1 (northern portion) of the fire has been managed by CIIMT 5 (Giachino) and Zone 2 (southern portion) by CIIMT 1 (McGowan).
