Most of you know my father is dealing with memory issues. One of the best decisions we made was to take him to the Memory Center at UAB. The doctors and and outstanding nurse practitioner - Nurse Hackett - have been wonderful to work with and so good to my Dad on every level. If you have a family member that is diagnosed with dementia, alzheimers, or any form of cognitive impairment, I highly recommend working with the Memory Center. The pratitioners there take extended time with us each visit. They clearly listen and dole out realistic and frank advice. Recently, Nurse Hackett reminded me of the importance of finding the humor in the situation that is certainly not a laughing matter. I have taken that advice and it is helping me to better understand the issues at hand and to cherish each moment with my Pop. Not every challenge is easy to overcome, but, focusing on the humor makes life much easier. For the record, Dad is doing great and we are lucky. At the moment his issues are mild though we know they will worsen as the years pass. Thank you all for the kind words you share and the time you take with him when you see him out and about. I know he appreciates it as well.
