Movie Review :Bobby Jasoos Release date :July 4 2014 bolly wood 3 Rating : 3.5/5 Producer :Dia Mirza, Sahil Sangha, Reliance Entertainment Director :Samar Shaikh Music Director :Shantanu Moitra Starring :Vidya Balan, Ali Fazal The very talented Vidya Balan is back with another women oriented film in the form of her new release ‘Bobby Jasoos’. Directed by Samar Shaikh, ‘Bobby Jasoos’ releases on 4 July and we are bringing you an insightful review much in advance! Story: Bilkis Ahmad aka Bobby (Vidya Balan) is a Muslim girl who lives in an orthodox household in the small bylanes of the Mogulpura locality in the historic city of Hyderabad. Bobby always dreams of becoming the top detective in her neighborhood and to pursue this dream, she keeps on taking small cases to keep herself busy and gain some experience out of it. Dressed in a simple salwar kameez, canvas shoes and carrying a knapsack, Bobby’s life centers around her investigation and she does not have a life beyond this. Both her life and career take a huge turn after she meets Anees Khan (Kiran Kumar) who gives her a lot of money to hunt down a couple of young women. Seeing the amount of money she is paid for this case, Bobby forgets to do a background check of Anees and his motives. What does Anees want with those girls? Will Bobby be able to get the girls back and will she find out the truth behind Anees’ intentions? The answers to these questions are what form the rest of ‘Bobby Jasoos’… Plus points: There have been a number of Bollywood movies in the past that have been based on detectives, but this is the first time that we see a female detective make her mark onscreen. With critical and commercially acclaimed movies like ‘Kahaani’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’, it is an expectation from Vidya to come with a power packed performance. However, let us tell you that the Vidya knows no boundaries when it comes to portraying any and every kind of a character. She is surely a ‘Maa’ of women oriented movies and we can’t wait to see more actresses learn from Vidya and enter this space soon. The various disguises of Vidya make the audience applaud the acting prowess of Vidya even further as she carries off the role of a typical Hyderabadi Muslim with perfection. It is usually seen that the male leads in women centric movies are either kept very low profile or are not given a lot of scope to show off their talent. This is however not the case with ‘Bobby Jasoos’ as the male lead Ali Faizal absolutely compliments Vidya and is perfect for his character. Not to forget, the actor looks hot and carries off his modernized Hyderabadi look nicely. While the promos might have made the chemistry between Vidya and Ali look lame, but as the movie progresses, the pair looks beautiful together. The rest of the cast including Kiran Kumar, Supriya Pathak, Arjun Bajwa and Rajendra Gupta are perfectly cast. Minus Points: Now let me tell you that ‘Kahaani’ has probably ruined the way in which we may watch the other movies of Vidya Balan as ‘Kahaani’ had a interestingly scripted plot and a suspense that made us look for the same in other movies. This is probably the reason that the suspense in ‘Bobby Jasoos’ proved to be lame and disappointing at so many levels. While the mystery in the movie kept us glued to our seats, we were expecting a crackling clincher to come up in the climax, but alas, that is not what happens in ‘Bobby Jasoos’. There are many scenes that needed to tie up as the movie came to a conclusion but unfortunately the audience was left without any answers. While the first half will have you smiling throughout, the second has a few flaws and is a bit stretched. Technical aspects: Despite being a debutante, Samar Shaikh’s direction deserves to be applauded. His idea of making a movie which is absolutely to the point and stays from unnecessary scenes and songs is praiseworthy. The story of the movie is engaging and fast-paced with a crisp screenplay while the editing is sharp. The songs of the film are excellent and are placed at the right places in the narrative. The song ‘Arziaan’ deserves a special mention because of its soulful lyrics, beautiful picturization and amazing chemistry between Vidya and Ali. A special mention goes to Vishal Sinha, the cinematographer, for beautifully capturing the picturesque beauty of Hyderabad with its small colorful lanes and scrumptious delicacies Verdict: Overall, ‘Bobby Jasoos’ is a good watch because of its incredible performances by the cast and a catchy story line and engaging screenplay though the climax spoils the fun to some extent. Finally, with so many pluses, one can easily excuse small flaws! Bollywood3 Rating : 3.5/5 Reviewed by Neha Prashar Gupta
