Mr. Os Weekend Picks Nov. 8 to 11 Last Week: 41-33 Overall: 404-340-5 NHL Outlook: So the Buds have had almost a week from playing an actual game to work on several things they needed fixing. The main issue being too many shots on goal allowed. Some believe having so much time off after getting spanked in Vancouver last Saturday was a bad thing. Not me. I think it was perfect timing to go over what they did well in the first 16 games of the season and what needs work. While most point to the 4-0 loss to the Canucks as the defining game in the Western road trip, I like to think about the fact they won 2-of-3 and beat the two teams they should have beat in Edmonton and Calgary. Up next is a home game against the Devils followed by a trip to the place of last seasons Game 7 collapse against the Bruins. If they can find a way to take at least three points this weekend, it has to be considered successful. I really hope they can pull out a win on Saturday in Boston to give them confidence for the rest of the season against their toughest division rivals. By the way congrats to a very deserving Hall of Fame class of 2013 including Chris Chelios, Scott Niedermayer and Brendan Shanahan. Friday, Nov. 8 New Jersey at Toronto, 7:30 p.m. Nashville at Winnipeg, 8 p.m. Calgary at Colorado, 9 p.m. Buffalo at Anaheim, 10 p.m. Picks: Toronto, Winnipeg, Colorado, Anaheim Saturday, Nov. 9 Edmonton at Philadelphia, 1 p.m. Florida at Ottawa, 2 p.m. Toronto at Boston, 7 p.m. Tampa Bay at Detroit, 7 p.m. Minnesota at Carolina, 7 p.m. NY Islanders at Columbus, 7 p.m. Pittsburgh at St. Louis, 8 p.m. Chicago at Dallas, 8 p.m. Washington at Phoenix, 8 p.m. Vancouver at Los Angeles, 10 p.m. Picks: Edmonton, Ottawa, Toronto, Tampa, Minnesota, Columbus, St. Louis, Chicago, Washington, Vancouver Sunday, Nov. 10 Los Angeles at Buffalo, 7 p.m. Nashville at NY Islanders, 7 p.m. New Jersey at NY Rangers, 7 p.m. Columbus at Washington, 7 p.m. Colorado at Carolina, 7 p.m. Tampa Bay at Montreal, 7 p.m. Philadelphia at Ottawa, 7 p.m. Winnipeg at Detroit, 7 p.m. Anaheim at Florida, 7 p.m. Phoenix at St. Louis, 8 p.m. San Jose at Calgary, 9 p.m. Picks: Buffalo, Nashville, NYR, Washington, Colorado, Montreal, Ottawa, Detroit, Anaheim, Phoenix, San Jose NBA Outlook: The Raptors have started 2-3, looked good at times and looked bad at times. They have a very tough October-November schedule to start the season and one can only hope they are either at .500 or within a couple of games heading into December when they get some easier opponents. Indiana is 5-0 and looking every bit the contender many expect them to be in the Eastern Conference this season, while I warn people not to sleep on the Lakers in the West. Many have counted out the purple and gold this year before it even started and I would be wary about the Lake Show if they can hold their heads above water while awaiting Kobes return. Bryant is one of the greatest ever for a reason and I fully expect hell return to a high level of play by the time the postseason rolls around. Should he be even close to the old Kobe, the Lakers will be a very real threat to anyone they face in the west, even the OKC Thunder. Friday, Nov. 8 New York at Charlotte, 7 p.m. Toronto at Indiana, 7 p.m. Boston at Orlando, 7 p.m. Cleveland at Philadelphia, 7 p.m. Brooklyn at Washington, 7 p.m. Oklahoma City at Detroit, 7:30 p.m. Utah at Chicago, 8 p.m. Dallas at Minnesota, 8 p.m. LA Lakers at New Orleans, 8 p.m. Golden State at San Antonio, 8:30 p.m. Denver at Phoenix, 9 p.m. Sacramento at Portland, 10 p.m. Picks: New York, Toronto, Orlando, Philly, Brooklyn, OKC, Minnesota, LA Lakers, San Antonio, Denver, Portland Saturday, Nov. 9 Utah at Toronto, 7 p.m. Orlando at atlanta, 7:30 p.m. Indiana at Brooklyn, 7:30 p.m. Philadelphia at Cleveland, 7:30 p.m. Boston at Miami, 7:30 p.m. LA Clippers at Houston, 8 p.m. Golden State at Memphis, 8 p.m. Dallas at Milwaukee, 8:30 p.m. Portland at Sacramento, 10 p.m. Picks: Utah, atlanta, Indiana, Cleveland, Miami, Houston, Memphis, Milwaukee, Portland Sunday, Nov. 10 San Antonio at New York, noon Washington at Oklahoma City, 7 p.m. New Orleans at Phoenix, 8 p.m. Minnesota at LA Lakers, 9:30 p.m. Picks: San Antonio, OKC, New Orleans, LA Lakers NCAA Football Week 11 Top 25 Friday, Nov. 8 No. 20 Louisville (-28) at Connecticut Saturday, Nov. 9 No. 1 Alabama (-12) vs. No. 12 LSU No. 2 Florida State (-35) at Wake Forest No. 8 Missouri (-14.5) at Kentucky No. 9 Auburn (-7.5) at Tennessee No. 11 Miami (-6.5) vs. Virginia Tech No. 14 Oklahoma State (-31) vs. Kansas No. 15 Texas A&M (-19) vs. Mississippi State No. 16 Fresno State (-10) at Wyoming No. 19 UCLA (-1.5) at Arizona No. 21 Central Florida (-10.5) vs. Houston No. 22 Arizona State (-7) at Utah No. 23 Notre Dame (-5) at Pittsburgh No. 24 Wisconsin (-7.5) vs. BYU No. 25 Texas Tech (-2.5) vs. Kansas State Outlook: Two big time match-ups in the Top 25 took place Thursday night with No. 6 Baylor shellacking No. 10 Oklahoma 41-12 and No. 5 Stanford knocking off No. 3 Oregon 26-20. So, basically Baylor and Stanford are really, really, really hoping for a Florida State slip-up sometime in the next few weeks but it wont happen this weekend. Even Oregon is hoping for that but how could one put Oregon above Stanford after a pretty solid performance by the Cardinal over the Ducks. Baylor is one of only a handful of unbeaten teams left and could start being part of the national title conversation should they win out and the Seminoles drop one. Ohio State is another on the national title bubble with a 9-0 record and could also play themselves into the big game with a perfect season. One other thought: Remember when Alabama-LSU was a national title game precursor? It wasnt that long ago but this year Bama has too much power for the Bayou Bengals, despite LSU having a pretty decent season. Picks: Louisville, Alabama, Florida State, Missouri, Auburn, OK State, Texas A&M, Fresno State, UCLA, Central Florida, Arizona State, Pittsburgh, BYU, Kansas State NFL Week 10 Sunday, Nov. 10 Jacksonville at Tennessee (-13) Philadelphia at Green Bay (-1) Buffalo at Pittsburgh (-3) Oakland at NY Giants (-7) St. Louis at Indianapolis (-9.5) Seattle (-5.5) at Atlanta Cincinnati (-1.5) at Baltimore Detroit at Chicago (PK) Carolina at San Francisco (-6) Houston at Arizona (-3) Denver (-7) at San Diego Dallas at New Orleans (-6.5) Monday, Nov. 11 Miami (-2.5) at Tampa Bay Outlook: Green Bay is going to have to hang tough while Aaron Rodgers sits out and theyre in tough against a Philly team led by QB Nick Foles coming off a huge win at Oakland last week. The Pack dropped an important one at home to the Bears and they probably wish it was a easier test than the Eagles this week. However they could look to the Bears for inspiration as back-up QB Josh McCown did an admirable job filling in for injured starter Jay Cutler in the win at Green Bay. Just a note: Baltimore are still the defending champs despite missing two key leaders on defense and a great receiver on offense from last years team. I expect them to play with a chip on their shoulder after losing a very winnable game at Cleveland last week. Look for big days by Joe Flacco and Ray Rice. Picks: Tennessee, Philly, Buffalo, NY Giants, Indy, Seattle, Baltimore, Detroit, San Francisco, Arizona, Denver, Miami CFL Sunday, Nov. 10 East Division Semi-final Montreal (+3.5) at Hamilton, 1 p.m. West Division Semi-final B.C. (+4.5) at Saskatchewan, 4:30 p.m. Outlook: I really hope the TiCats beat the Als so the Argos can avenge those back-to-back late season losses to Hamilton in the East Final. On the other hand Im cheering for the Roughriders because I want them to beat both the Lions and then the Stamps next week to get a shot at winning the Grey Cup at home. It would be great if they could play the Argos and exact revenge from 2012 when the Argos beat the Riders in Toronto. Picks: Hamilton, Saskatchewan Serie A Saturday, Nov. 8 Catania vs. Udinese Inter vs. Livorno Sunday, Nov. 9 Atalanta vs. Bologna Cagliari vs. Torino Chievo vs. AC Milan Fiorentina vs. Sampdoria Genoa vs. Verona Juventus vs. Napoli Parma vs. Lazio Roma vs. Sassuolo Picks: Udinese, Inter, Atalanta-Bologna draw, Cagliari-Torino draw, Milan, Fiorentina, Genoa, Juve-Napoli draw, Parma, Roma England Saturday, Nov. 8 Aston Villa vs. Cardiff City Chelsea vs. West Bromwich Albion Crystal Palace vs. Everton Liverpool vs. Fulham Norwich City vs. West Ham United Southampton vs. Hull City Sunday, Nov. 9 Swansea City vs. Stoke City Tottenham Hotspur vs. Newcastle United Sunderland vs. Manchester City Manchester United vs. Arsenal Picks: Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Norwich-West Ham draw, Southampton, Swansea-Stoke draw, Tottenham, Man City, Man United-Arsenal draw
