Mr. President, As more and more soldiers wend their way to Iraq - TopicsExpress

Mr. President, As more and more soldiers wend their way to Iraq and Syria to fight against ISIS, and as we leave Afghanistan behind as a whole, but still leave upwards of 8,000 troops to advise and assist, I just want to ask one thing or you: please let our troops win; let them finish the job. America has shown great horror for the spilling of American blood in the past 30 years. This is not a bad thing. I am grateful that we have been able to. But it means that we resort to police actions, instead of wars. We never commit to actually finishing something. For the most part, we don’t actually have any kind of end goal in mind at all, except to leave eventually. This means that we don’t accomplish anything, and thousands of lives are given in a cause that will never come to fruition. The dreams and hopes of nations fall into sorrow and violence, because the job was left undone in our haste to bring our troops home. Our soldiers deserve better, from our government, and from us, their countrymen. The parents and families of those who have died deserve better. We, as a nation, deserve better. Our allies deserve better. The leadership has to come from your administration, Mr. President. I know it isn’t easy. I don’t know that I could make the decisions that you face. But you chose the job, Mr. President. It’s time to set actual, achievable goals for our soldiers. They will succeed, you know. They can do anything. They always have. Our soldiers have never lost a war, Mr. President. But people behind the lines, with political goals, and far too much awareness of public opinion, have. We need you to lead us, Mr. President. We want you to lead us. And we want you to take a stand, say what our soldiers are going to achieve, and then let them achieve it. I know it isn’t nearly as easy as it sounds, but I think that it would be easier than you fear. Standing your ground always is. It gives you a position of strength to deal with the rest of the world from. And frankly, Mr. President, we need one. The world isn’t getting any easier. The next 10 years will be difficult and painful ones, I fear. Our military will be needed over and over again in many different places and situations. Please use them wisely. No matter how good our military is, there will will be blood shed if you go into combat—ours, and our enemies. Before you commit our troops, Mr. President, give them something to commit to. If you don’t, the losses will never equal the cost required. Sincerely yours, Minou
