Much to be thankful for: 1. My blood work came back Tuesday: Glucose 115 -- still high, but not diabetic. Hgb A1C is 5.4, well within normal. So Im not diabetic. Im still a bit unsteady on my feet; I dont know if its the result of my stroke last March or because Im 64 yearas old. My doctor, Steven Helman, told me that Im not old: Ill tell you when your old, he said. He also said that he takes Medicare patients. 2. The Mass in the Extraordinary Form (MEF) is off and running well at Our Lady of Grace with the Paster Fr. Kowalski and the Parochial Vicar Father FatherJason Barone. -- every Sunday at a1pm. In Salisbury at Sacred Heart, Fr Noah Carter continues the MEF that Fr. Barone started there. And at St. Thomas Aquinas in Charlotte, Fr. Jason Christian will be starting the MEF next week. Today for Thanksgiving at 10am Mass (in the Ordinary Form) at Our Lady of Grace, with two favorite Thanksgiving hymns: Come, Ye Thankful People Come and Now Thank We All Our God, highlighted by Andrew OConnors fine organ playng. It was a bilingual Mass -- Spanish and English. After Mass many of the Hispanics present brought their Advent wreaths forward to be blessed -- something that Ive never seen Gringo Catholics do. 3. Today at Green Valley Grill for Thanksgiving day I hosted Fr. Kowalski, he having the traditional turkey, listed on the menu as Rotisserie Fired Turkey including white and dark meat, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetable and turkey gravy; I had the the turkey tenderloin: Turkey Tenderloin stuffed with dates and macadamia nuts, wrapped in prosciutto over mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetable, sauced with Madeira spiked turkey gravy. For our appetizers Father had Lamb Phyllo Cigars with charmoula aïoli; and I the Prince Edward Island Mussels steamed in sherry with house-cured pancetta, marinara, fresh cilantro and crostini. For dessert Father had one of the flagship desserts:Frozen Nutty Irishman, a chocolate cake layered with Irish cream mousse and crushed English toffee, finished with crème anglaise and chocolate sauce; and I had the most sublime pumpkin cheesecake -- indeed the most sublime cheesecake -- that Ive ever eaten, billed as Pumpkin Cheesecake: traditional style cheesecake served with fresh whipped cream and caramel sauce At the table next to us was my old chum from seminary, Father-Joseph Mack, there with his mother. Father Mack is pastor at St. Pauls, Greensboro. It once was called St. Pauls-Outside-the-Faith; Fr. Mack has turned the place into a real Catholic Church! Much to be thankful for!
