MuchMusic (sorry for the long post) Ive been pondering for the last few hours how to express this, but I can ponder no more. Time to write. My heart goes out to the dozens of you who were laid off from Much on Wednesday. You (and those who have gone before you, who are also no longer with the station) have poured your souls into what was formerly called MuchMusic - The Nations Music Station. We have created some of the most original television programming on the planet. That can never be taken away from you. Its especially sad that as we approach the 30th anniversary (we signed on in August, 1984) our Much environment went from an extremely vibrant, energetic, creative free-for-all, where we (frankly) kicked MTVs ass while supporting in so many ways the Canadian music industry - to a pre-recorded, canned, sterile and unimaginative use of precious cable television bandwidth. I have been honoured with the opportunity of working with so many of you. I continued to watched after I was no longer there as so many others carried the torch, in spite of an ever-increasing concern of the bottom line - with an unfortunate and simultaneous ever-decreasing concentration on what actually makes quality Canadian programming. You all have made historical television over three decades, and that is something of which you truly can be proud. Wednesday marked the end of that era. The Nations Music Station is no longer. Fold your tents with grace; march out in unity, with your heads held high. You are an original, eclectic team. You will continue to triumph in the face of adversity - of that you can be certain. Best wishes and good luck in your future endeavours to everyone - todays brave souls who kept up the good fight until the end, as well as all of the talented MuchMusic employees over the years. We fought the odds in 1984 and all of you kept Much on the air in later years through its various incarnations. All of you - every single person - helped keep that dream alive.
