Mumba is a coward, says Dora DORA Siliya has branded Nevers - TopicsExpress

Mumba is a coward, says Dora DORA Siliya has branded Nevers Mumba and his supporters opposing the call for a convention as cowards. And Siliya says MMD does not have a presidential candidate for the 2016 general elections but only has a party president in whom the members have lost confidence. But Mumbas spokesperson, Muhabi Lungu, says there is no justification and resources for the party to hold a convention because Mumba is managing the party well. Meanwhile, MMD national youth secretary Tobias Kafumukache has applied to police for permission to stage a demonstration today against failed leadership in the party and the holding of an extra-ordinary convention. Siliya yesterday said she had received information that Mumba had asked all provincial chairmen and women to convene in Lusaka on Sunday so that he could convince them to oppose the call for an extraordinary convention to change leadership. She said the provincial and district executives had openly passed a vote of no confidence in Mumbas leadership and that they would soon petition the chairperson, Kabinga Pande, over the need for a convention. She said she was also aware that district executives had threatened to face and deal with provincial officials that would be opposed to the call for a convention. Siliya further said she had been receiving numerous calls and visits from district and provincial officials countrywide that had submitted that a convention must be held at all costs. It is those who want to hold on to their positions when they know they have failed who are refusing to go for a convention. Only cowards are refusing to go for a convention, Siliya said. The members are saying we are not happy with the leadership, we are not happy with this president. Its only those who are selfish who believe that when they have been given party positions, then it means they are personal-to-holder positions. Even in the districts, they have said they will punish provincial officials who dont want to hear what people are saying. Siliya said Mumba and his supporters should not hop from one radio station to another telling people that there was no need for a convention. True leadership is only if you have people following you. If you are hoping from one radio station to another all by yourself and you are saying me I know what the people want no! she said. We are hearing what the people want. They are coming to visit us and they are phoning us. Its not about Dora. Siliya also said the MMD doesnt yet have a presidential candidate for the 2016 election. The argument that once you are president (of the party), then you are going to stand in a presidential election; that is not true. In MMD, only a convention can make you to be a presidential candidate. Even if you are the president of the party, it does not mean you are a presidential candidate for the party and only in a by-election are you endorsed by NEC. As of now, MMD has no presidential candidate for 2016. We have a party president, we have a NEC in which the people are saying they have no confidence, she said. Siliya said the MMD could raise money to hold a convention and that the coming by-elections were not a possible stumbling block...
