Muslims Are Not in Support of Insurgency- Prof. Oloyede THE Secretary General, National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Professor Ish’aq Olanrewaju Oloyede, yesterday averred that muslims are not in support of the on-going insurgency, and are not at war with the Federal Government and adherents of other religions in the country in spite of the raging terrorist activities of the Boko Haram sect. He said the campaign of the dreaded sect, which was targeted at slaying innocent people was mischievous and does not in any way, represent what Islam preaches. In an exclusive telephone interview with our correspondent yesterday, Oloyede also pleaded with a section of the media to stop tagging the violent sect with Islam. He urged the Federal Government to desist from portraying Muslims as anti-government. Oloyede explained that the philosophy of the sect was anti-Islam in all ramifications but due to the ongoing terrorist attacks being perpetrated by the group, some Nigerians have been misguided. The immediate-past Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, however noted that some people emerged during the civil war who claimed to be fighting for Jesus killing hapless people while nobody regarded them. He said, “Boko Haram is mischievous; it is not representing Islam, but some people do not see it that way. “There were people during the Biafra (civil war) who claimed to be fighting for Jesus, people disregarded them. Now we have been so misguided. “A swedish man also claimed to be fighting the infidels in the name of christianity but no one tagged him as a terrorist. Instead, they regarded him a social activist. “Muslims are not at war with the Federal Government and other Nigerians and they (government) should stop portraying us as so. “We should not be Islamophobic; we should be fair in our reportage to avoid needless tension”, Oloyede pleaded.
