Must congratulate Souths on their victory last night. First in 43 years , and well deserved. They were one of the better teams all year, certainly finished the season well, and have been consistently strong for a few years in a row. The Bulldogs did incredibly well to stay in it for so long with a total lack of the ball and field position...Some of that was Souths skill, some our own mistakes, others beyond the control of either team. All in all a tough and tight game for the most part. An amazing result for the Bulldogs to even be there from 7th position. The scoreline did flatter Souths, but at the end of the day, it was still a great win for them. Very proud of the Bulldogs fans who were still beeping their horns amd beating thier drums all over Bankstown and Belmore after the game last night. Two critiques of the night. 1/ I thought they presented the entertainment around the wrong way. Id have started with the drummers, then Train, finishing with Slash (and he should have done more than just two songs). 2/ The start of the game, before the players ran out, was all Souths. I understand them running out first, they finished higher on the ladder, so thats expected. Whilst I appreciate the nostalgia and sentiment of the occasion, the grand final should be neutral, not a home game for either side. I reckon the NRL has an obligation to do things which includes both teams and their supporters. Bob McCarthy should not have rung the symbolic bell without a former Canterbury player there with him... Perhaps someone from the same era, like Les Johns or whoever. I was at the game with a St George supporter and sat next to Warriors supporters, who all made comment that they thought the Bulldogs fans were being snubbed... Even some of the Souths supporters near us agreed. The impression seemed to be that the NRL had made its mind up that this was all about the Rabbitohs and nothing else mattered. It was a good day, 3 very good games. Congrats also to Warriors and Northern Pride on winning the lower grades. Also to the runner ups in both, good performances from Brisbane and Penrith. Until next year....GO THE WESTERN SYDNEY WANDERERS :-)
