My Oceanside ironman: I was really excited to finish my swim on time (thank you Sarah for all the lessons) when I got to transition my enthusiastic volunteers had taken my bike bag...so I had about 10 of them searching the truck for it...anyway they finally found it and i was off. I felt great on the first half of the bike ride, there were rolling hills but nothin I couldnt handle, I was guzzling perpetuam and munching on snacks (thanks for all the nutrition tips Jim) when I hit 30 miles there was a massive hill, it was straight up and went on forever, so I started chugging my way up it and my chain came off but that was fine, I knew just what to do to pop that sucker right back on (thanks Jim for the bike clinic) but on that the steep hill I couldnt get going again and had to walk my bike the mile or so to the top. As I kept going, I was hitting hill after hill (so much worse then Mercer) and my speed wasnt good, a van pulled up and I was told by a staffer that Id made 46 miles but, while I hadnt missed the overall bike cut off, Id missed a landmark cut off so would I please get in. He goes on to tell me that it was to bad bc Id only missed it by a few minutes and the next 10 miles was going to be all down hill and level from there and I would easily make the overall cut off . So I hauled off and punched him square in the jaw, jumped on my bike and took off....no, I was good, I got in the damn van and my race was over. In summary, I was in no way done, I had a run left in me I was just too slow. Im looking forward to doing much better at Lake Stevens.
