My Opinion On The State Of San Diego Rap 1/10/2015 0 Comments Everybody assumes they know why San Diegos stagnate rap scene is exactly what it is, Stagnate. Whos fault is it? Can it be the radio, the DJs, the artists, the lack of retail shops in the city? Basically in my opinion, those are all excuses. OK, San Diego residents dont have the luxury of having Capital, Priority, Epic records in a 20 mins driving radius but again, in my opinion thats another excuse. Shall we get right to it? First off we all know there is mad talent in this city, many of our artist are very hungry, but we are a city full of dope misinformed Rap Artist, DJs, Promoters and Managers. The San Diego rap scene reminds me of many inner citys, high school, the cliques, the popular rappers, the not so popular rappers. How can you have Any knowledge of the record business if you are stuck in a box (San Diego city limits). The internet doesnt show you how to network and build relationships within the record industry. I read a interview sometime ago where a San Diego artist mentioned, When Im in other citys for industry events, me and my team are the San Diego representatives. Where are the rest of our artist when these industry events come about? Facebook, Twitter, Instagram have made rappers, lazy and willing to settle for likes and, retweets. The real players are outside, but our local events, are rooms full of rappers waiting their turn. Wheres the support from the city? I would Love to go to a rap show in San Diego thats NOT a family reunion for some of the artist performing, Feel me? Genuine fans. Everybody wanna put a price tag on their nothing. I asked several artist, when should a rapper start charging for verses? They all answered me real quick, When they sell some records. But we see them I got verses & hooks for the low! YOU CANT DO THAT! Should I really pay you for a verse cause you got 100 likes? You wont do a song with so and so cause yall rags dont match, but let Nip or YG wanna do a song wit yall active asses and suddenly you all are colorblind. San Diego yall better get it together cause these other cities is moving! Creating awareness, selling records, doing tours, and eating! Learn to support the platforms that try to push the San Diego sound locally and beyond. High End Radio, Joey Dixon TV,Siccness.net, No CEO Radio, AsweproceedSD. Producers, yes producers, yall charging these artist NOTHING reasonable for beats and yall have no popping resume or any residuals coming in no major placement on ANYTHING relevant. Not saying yall cant, but because your hot wit beats does not mean OVERCHARGE hometown artists. Feel me? We are our own worst enemy.
