My boyfriend had his 6 month checkup with his cardiologist yesterday and this is what we found out.......BAD NEWS TALK with your cardiologist....Ive been waiting for the moment to arrive to talk to my cardiologist down at Deborah Hospital, concerning how much longer I have to wait because of the drug Effient that I am on, which has to run a certain period of time before they can stop it long enough to do the procedure on my back. My pain specialist had given me a hard time on my visit a week ago to him and told me that he would cut me off from his services in two months, which would leave me to suffer without any pain meds. We called Deborah, and I found out today, that my cardiologist talked to him. Jackass that Im seeing up here was DEMANDING that I see a specific cardiologist to be cleared for the surgery and to be switched to a drug like Plavix or Coumadin. I told him NO!!!, I had already been taken off of Plavix because it wasnt working, and once you start a drug like Effient you stay with it. I have what are know as medication stents which need the drug absorption in order not to close up the arteries. This guy was trying to find a doorway around that, which could lead to a fatal heart attack for me. It seems my cardiologist set him straight on my need to stay on the med Im on and that a YEAR must go by before they could even consider a surgical procedure on my back, and that means suffering until at least April 2014 before its even thinkable....I cant believe how unthinkable it is, as I know the degree of how much pain Im in. Does it get worse?...Yes, it does, and very-much worse! Cardiologist Van Heist told me how bad off my heart actually is today. I have had open heart surgery, and have endured 10 stents over the years, however, I have an area in my heart that has been very brutalized from previous heart attacks. For those who dont know, every time you have a heart attack, you kill an area of the heart....it just doesnt work anymore. It seems I have such an area that CANT be helped where blood flow is being squeezed back in a junction where blood has to move two ways, and because of the ultra sharp turn, you cant do anything to get to it. In his words Mr. Tolotta, Im sorry, but it is inoperable He went on to tell me that it is amazing that even though I have this situation going, Im somehow getting extra blood to the area that needs to be reached. He said, I dont know how its happening, but you are a lucky man in this regard, for I cant even figure out how youre doing it. He went on to say, You have a very strong heart, lets hope it stays strong because.... There you have it! Im officially on borrowed time Hes setting me up with a local cardiologist in my area that he recommends. Between that cardiologist and my current cardiologist, they will each take a turn and look me over every 6 months. They will compare notes, my cardiologist will send all records and findings to the new cardiologist, who will in return send all information to come down to him. The reasons are they would know me and my case locally in a hospital, if the worse case scenario should come. Im praying it doesnt come. The thought of the pain involved in a heart attack and not being able to cheat death is not an easy feeling. Theyre very painful, and I cant imagine that pain not going away until they pull the sheet over your head. Pray for him, please
