My busy council week #3: Shared Services review, Finance. Because of the Audit role I was asked to be on the Finance shared services review. We have a shared senior management team with our neighbouring district council, Chiltern. It saves us a lot of money. Part of the savings comes from aligning as far as possible the policies and practices behind the services provided by the two councils, while maintaining their sovereignty and apart-ness. So for each service, a committee is formed of councillors and officers from both organisations, and we slowly sift through the process of identifying co-working opportunities that offer cash saving efficiency measures. Its a very robust review and Ill tell you lots more about in in later posts. But we met last week, getting into the nitty gritty now.
