My condolences go out to the family, relatives and friends of the late Rose Ayuya, mother to Ida Odinga. The late Rose Ayuya will be remembered for her outstanding service to the community and the nation having been the first African trained nurse in Kakamega. She was a humble, industrious and kind-hearted person who served her family as well as the nation with a remarkable sense of duty. Mama Ayuya was a diligent and hard working lady who at the time when women were relegated to cultural duties decided to embrace education and the culture of saving cash by opening a bank account in Kakamega in 1937. She will be remembered for her simplicity and generosity which earned her the respect and friendship of many. I pray that God grants the family the fortitude to bear the tragic loss of their loved one.
