My dear children, writing these admonitions to you, rely on 3 principles: 1. Life is impermanent. Nobody knows beforehand how long one lives. There are pressing matters to pass on. The earliest they are conveyed the better it’s going to be. 2. I am your father, so if I don’t tell you, nobody will share with you the following things. 3. The following life lessons I want to pass on to you is the culmination of countless painful experiences and bitter failures of my life that I have personally encountered. They will help you avoid costly mistakes in your growing up. The following admonitions are noteworthy in life: A. If someone does not treat you right, don’t waste your time taking that to heart. In this life, no one has the obligation to treat you well except your parents. If there is someone who treats you right, apart from being grateful and appreciative, you should be a little cautious because in life people tend to have an ulterior motive for all their actions. So do not rush into the conclusion that they are your best friends.B. Nobody is irreplaceable or stick with you for ever. Nothing is so previous that you must have it and cling to it. If you understand this eternal truth, later in life should your life companion refuses to walk with you the rest of your existence or for whatever reason you lose what is your most precious possession in your life, you should understand that the sky is not falling. C. Life is too short. So if today we waste our time, tomorrow when you realize this, that part of our life is already for ever gone. Therefore, if you value your life as early as possible, then you are in a position to enjoy fully your existence this much more. Instead of hoping for longevity, you’d better off enjoying your life to the fullest right away. D. In this life there is no such a thing as eternal love. Love is but a fleeting feeling. This emotion ultimately evolves and changes with time and circumstance. If your eternal lover leaves you, try to be patient and let time irretrievably flow by and your feelings slowly mellow out, then your sorrows will gradually be fading. Don’t keep on clinging to the mirage of love for ever and most certainly don’t let your heart become too broken by lost love. E. Even though there are people in the world who are successful and famous without neither much education nor higher degree, but that does not mean that you will be successful in life without a lot of education. Knowledge gathered from learning and good education is a weapon in your hands. You can build a fortune with your bare hands, but you cannot achieve that without having a piece of steel in your hands. Remember well this fact. F. I do not ask any of you to take care of me during the last part of my lifespan. For the same token, don’t expect me to take care of the second portion of your existence. When you all are growing up and have become independent, I have done my sacred duty. Later on whether you use the public transportation or drive your own luxury car, whether you eat shark-fin soup or Ramen noodle, it’s all up to you. G. You can ask yourself to keep your trustworthiness, but you cannot request others to show trustworthiness towards you. You can tell yourself to treat people well, but you cannot expect other people to treat you well. However you treat people does not mean that people will return your kindness. If you don’t understand this fact, you are bound to reap untold disappointment for yourself. H. For years on end there have been people who have bought lottery tickets, but they are still empty-handed dirt-poor. This is to prove that if you want to prosper, you have to work hard. There is no such a thing as a freebie. I. Family relationship and friendship are all fate-driven. No matter how long and in what way we live together we must appreciate and honor the time we can live with one another because in our next lives (if they exist at all) whether we love one another or not, we would not have the opportunity to see one another again.
