My email to the Commissioner of Health Services of Victoria - TopicsExpress

My email to the Commissioner of Health Services of Victoria : Last sent an email to ur office on 2/05/14 Professor XXXX told me that I would need an assessment from a psychiatrist (and referred me to Dr XXXX at XXXXclinic, Melbourne) before I could go on estrogen. Professor XXXX said given my previous history (having been clinically diagnosed with gender dysphoria and having been on premarin (a form of estrogen) in the past, ONE session should be enough!) Dr XXXX said that Professor XXXX should not have said this. That it would take longer, particularly as I indicated that my intention ultimately was to have gender reassignment surgery. I read Dr XXXX information sheet sent to me and it indicated 1-3 sessions for an assessment. I have now completed 3 sessions and find myself booked in for another 3 sessions with no indication of when this procedure will be completed! I am feeling quite powerless, distraught and not trusting the system I hoped I could have some faith in. I do not wish to get involved in the politics of what is going on, BUT I would like to draw your attention to the fact that I am on a Disability Support Pension and even with the rebate I am still out approximately $80 a session, which is a LOT to me! At 6 sessions this is around $500 lost! I am starting to seriously despair if I can continue to afford these sessions with my psychiatrist and WHY the system seems to be failing me, a 54 yr old who has now lived as a woman since November 2013! Even the WRAP standards of care would suggest that I should have been prescribed estrogen and aldactone by now. I am NOT responsible for the kerfuffle that took place over the Monash Gender Clinic several years ago and strongly resent this nanny state like mentality being displayed! A similar issue occurred in the UK and they GOT OVER IT and sorted out an improved way of dealing with these matters. It certainly DOESNT seem like the same can be said for the state of Victoria! It is NOT my wish to feel no other recourse than to turn to the internet to obtain estrogen BUT if I feel pushed up against the wall, then this, sadly, may be an option I will have to consider. Things cannot continue to go on like this. If my assessment is not completed at the end of the next 3 sessions (last one being November 7), I will have to seriously consider terminating my relationship with my psychiatrist and the Victorian health system and seeking help via the internet thru online estrogen sales, which as you may know could be potentially dangerous! I do not wish to damage my professional relationships with either DrXXXX or Professor XXXX. I have no personal animosity towards either but I do have GENUINE concern for the wellbeing of myself and others who follow me! Sincerely, Chrissy Jackson
