My family had a small yellow female cat, and she had kittens. The neighbor had a big red dog that looked to be part boxer or bull dog. One day the dog crossed the fence and started in the direction of the cat and her kittens. She immediately sprinted across the yard and under the small Toyota station wagon parked in the drive way and stopped center of the car. The dog got down on its belly and drug itself until it was face to face with her. At that point, she owned him. She placed both paws with claws fully extended behind his ears and drug them over the top of his head to its eyeballs. The dog yelped and started fighting to get out from under the car-- banging its head on the bottom side of the vehicle and ran back to its side of the fence, and I never saw that dog approach that cat or her kittens again. The entire event happened in seconds, and I have to wonder-- did the cat have that strategy in mind all along? Do cats think that strategically, or was it just chance?
