My friend Rick Warner and I hiked to the ridge at Raven Lake this - TopicsExpress

My friend Rick Warner and I hiked to the ridge at Raven Lake this past Sunday, Oct 27th. I was just gettng over a bad cold and must have been ravin crazy to attempt that climb. I know I was a little out of shape because I had to stop a couple of times and catch my breasts. (they are just small moobs)! On the way there we saw a large yellow moose at the side of the road (made of wood) and then about 100 yards from the trailhead, we saw a grizzly bear (on a warning poster). :-D The next wildlife we came across was Kim and her friends on their way down from overnighting at the lake cabin. They lost a turquoise thermarest and she gave us her phone number in case we found it. She asked if we could remember her number. Like HELLO, I am going to forget the phone # of a young, in-shape female hiker, lol. Anyhow we didnt find it. But I remembered the number. The scenery reminded me of Mexico. White sand (I forgot my sunglasses so maybe I was just snowblind), blue sky, puffy clouds but a surprising lack of bikini clad beach babes. The lake wasnt frozen but there was lots of crystal clear water. There was a blaze of autumn colours. Deciduous trees were green, gold and red. And even the evergreens were ablaze of colour (red and pink metal tags and ribbons marking the trail). At the top of the ridge (cairn), there were 50 km winds. Rick beat me there. One of my quads ran out of fuel so I had to ask my pal, Will Power, to help me to the peak. Apparently you have to feed your legs for energy. We saw a blue jay, Clarks Nutcracker and did you know that there were reptiles this far north. Rick and I had gators (gaiters) flapping at our heels on the trail. For lunch we had mountain halibut with crackers. And when out of the wind it felt like Mexico so we stripped off some clothing and drank Kahlua with our hot chocolate. All in all, a great hike and day.
