My friend posts a lot of positive motivational updates this one rang true for me today and I thought I would share. Im a dreamer of sorts so its very hard for me to stay in the present. Im forever wandering off in my own head. I loved this post because it helps make me realize Im not the only one that does this and also just staying more in the present makes you a happier person and doesnt stress you out about things that might happen or what if.... make your own way and stay focused! Mindfulness has been describes as, paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgementally. Mindfulness is about learning to maintain awareness of your mind, body, and surroundings. It is about staying in the present moment and noticing when your mind drifts into the past or the future. It is learning to enjoy your precious life in the here and now. Finally, it is about finding and connecting with your sense of self. When you are aware of what you are experiencing, you can make the choice to change or accept it, this decreasing your own suffering. Mindfulness increases your awareness. It allows us to be completely connected to our environment, reduce stress, and improve our overall well-being. Studies show that practicing mindfulness can reduce blood pressure, increase the immune system function, relax muscles, improve quality of sleep, and increase focus and concentration. Mindfulness skills help you tolerate distress, that is, tolerating emotions and situations that feel intolerable; riding your intense emotions (urge surfing) rather than doing things to shut then off or distract them, OR from engaging in self-destructive behaviors.
