My lady turkey has never seen a tom turkey in her life. She is the police of my barn yard because she alerts me when predators are near. She is now on her 6 th day of sitting on eggs to hatch them in around 28 days. I have read that turkeys can actually fertilize their own eggs 30% of the time without the help of a male, so we are letting her have a shot at being a mom. They also say that when a female self fertilizes the babies born will be males so that the species will continue... Interesting right? She sits on her nest of 10 eggs most of the day and only comes out long enough to eat and drink. I hope she is special enough to be a mom because she is such a good turkey.
