My little teaching event went very well yesterday. Ill be doing more of these for volunteers and parents and caregivers. Very involved group - great questions, great insights. I am grateful for the wonderful people I meet when I am at High Horses. ============= Today’s training with Connections instructor Lasell Bartlett helped those present gain a better understanding of mental health challenges (invisible at times) and techniques to help within the ring. All participants left with nuggets of information and insights. We learned how to ‘settle’, ground ourselves, value social engagement, observe changes in voice, face and posture and realize learning and positive changes can happen in small increments within a safe space. Truly a balance of many things. Volunteers who are able to hang out while someone struggles, able to communicate using positive and direct statements, are curious and confident, are present and calm when there is ‘nothing’ to do, perceptive, able to ask for clarification and manage the feeling of being uncomfortable are needed throughout our programs and especially in Connections… Thank you Lasell Liz Claud High Horses Therapeutic Riding Program PO Box 681 Norwich, VT 05055 802-356-3386 highhorses.org
