My mother and father. My mother, Dorothy Catherine (Stanton) Matteson, left this life twenty years ago today. She was absolutely the kindest and most loving person I have ever known. She began life under impossible circumstances, fought through amazing difficulties, worked hard her entire life, and yet maintained an attitude of optimism, love, and faith. She was devoted to my father - even when he did not deserve it. And all of us kids know she loved us without reserve or hesitation and we know we did not deserve all that, but are so grateful for it. She was all of five foot one and a half inches, but you had best not cross her. However, if you knew her, you wouldnt want to. She is my mother and I love her and miss her each day. Of course, I am devoted to my wife, Valerie and my kids and their families and want to stay with them in this life as long as I can, but when I arrive on the other side and see her again, it will be a moment of joy to take her in my arms again and enjoy society with my parents once more.
