My open letter to Claflin Universitys president... President - TopicsExpress

My open letter to Claflin Universitys president... President Henry N. Tisdale, I thought the administrators, the faulty, and the staff at the illustrious Claflin University actually cared about their students. I guess I was wrong. With all due respect, Dr. Henry N. Tisdale, you have let me down. I have been emailing you since August and you have not responded to my emails. I have even visited your office when you have had open door visits and yet there has been no solution to my problems. My problem is that I came to college to be able to work hands on with the equipment. What kind of Mass Communication student doesnt have 24 hour access to their studio and equipment? The answer is Claflins Mass Communication students. I am in debt because I decided to come to an institution where I believed I could do some amazing things. Sadly, thats not the case. I am a senior Mass Communications major with a minor in Theatre. Do you know why I chose to study the two? No? Well Ill explain. I am a very creative person and I know that the arts can take me far in life. When I got here late 2014, I remember hearing you say this, and I quote, The world needs visionaries. Do you know how much that inspired me? It made me believe that Claflin wanted the best for their students but now, I do NOT feel that way. Its very hard to be a visionary when administrators are clouding your vision. And let me tell you, thats just one problem for our institution. I dont know if you know this or not but, lately there has been a lot of chaos and confusion outside of high rise. You know...that old male residential hall in front of your newly furnished, freshly painted, co-ed dorm that you spent your last year working hard for. It baffles me how the Presidents house in no more than 10-15 feet away from high rise and I have not seen your face once. Im curious to know...did you handle the problem or were you unaware of it like always? For your information, your amazing freshman class is the root of this problem. I guess with the increase in freshman classes these last few years the school has increased its quantity but it has diminished its quality. Sure, anyone can publish a statement about Claflin University in a newspaper and chances are it will be something that sounds good and gives Claflin that clean image that everyone loves so much. And you know how everyone buys into this little façade? The parents of all these students. And honestly, the parents love the school more than the students. Do you know why? Ill tell you why...They love Claflin because they dont attend Claflin. I can truly say that Ive been miserable here these last few years. Its sad to say that my friends are learning so much at their institutions, but I feel like I havent learned enough. Granted I have some of the best professors in the world, (Dr. Donna Gough, Mr. Michael Fairwell, Ameen Hall and the late great Dr. Bill Clark) and they are the reason why I know what I know today. I love them and I appreciate all the tough love that they gave me to help me achieve in my profession and in life, but why do I feel like Im not as proficient as students who graduate from other institutions? But you know, youll probably ignore this message like you ignored the others. And F.Y.I., if your email on the Claflin website isnt the correct one...you might want to change that A.S.A.P. God bless you and have a great day. Sincerely signed by an upset student, Racardo Davis
