My pops asked the question, If God is real, why is there all this - TopicsExpress

My pops asked the question, If God is real, why is there all this pain and suffering in the world? Starvation, etc... This question is equally necessary for all to wrestle with at some point, but here is why it is a little bit paradoxical: (two points) 1) The question assumes for a second that God is real but that He allows pain and suffering to occur. We also see clearly that this question assumes that God does, in fact, have the power to end pain and suffering (Why does He allow it?). Funny how the answer lies within the question, sometimes: in our very minds, we already know that God exists in another universe that is separated, but close, to ours. He is unseen, yet sees all (as the question implies). Can we conclude that God has planned for there to be a MEANING for this pain and suffering? Clearly He sees, and clearly He knows, so clearly these things have a greater purpose to serve, right? Perhaps God is seeing who among us will surrender our lives to combat this pain and suffering on behalf of the victims here? 2) And more significantly the question implies, as our own intelligence gathers, that this life is temporary and that God dwells in an infinite universe that watches over us. Paul wrote, For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (Romans ch.8) We obviously live in a dimension in which God is hidden away from us for a purpose; and we obviously inhabit this earth for a limited time: so why are we so fixed on the present sufferings and not that future glory? Do you think that those whove lost father, mother, sibling, or child, are demanding an answer from God in heaven, in His presence, saying, Jesus, when I was thirteen, my dad died... or Jesus, when I was 27 my wife died, why did it happen??? In the book of Job (pronounced Jobe), Job lost everything. He didnt have to wait to die to see God and ask Him why because God came to Job, and guess what Job said in the magnificent presence of God??? He said, “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I—and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me. You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’ I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.” (The last chapter of Job: 42) RECAP: The question implies two things: 1) God sees everything and is capable of intervening. 2) God dwells in an infinite universe, whereas ours is only temporary. Today, think about what that purpose may be in your own life. And have a lovely day!!!
