The Yellow Brick Road I remember sitting in the darkened movie - TopicsExpress

The Yellow Brick Road I remember sitting in the darkened movie theater and looking up at Judy Garland singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” in “The Wizard of OZ” on the huge Technicolor movie screen as if it were yesterday. Technicolor was a new, glorious invention, and Judy’s voice and the explosion of color and music on the screen simply knocked me out. However I couldn’t place the moment in time. Just Googled “The Wizard of Oz” to find out the date of release, and it was 1939. That means I was somewhere around 8 yrs. old! The movie and that particular song filled me with joy and wonder, and I learned the words and went around the house trying to sing that song like Judy with some success … until the part about wishing on a star when I couldn’t reach the high notes without a struggle. But I loved that song with all my heart never the less. Looking back, the song kind of symbolizes my life search for The Wizard, who of course could explain how to get whatever was currently missing in my life. And, like most people, I’m always searching for something, and in terms of the movie it is that yellow brick road that can take me to the answers. It has occurred to me this morning that in so many ways we live in a wondrous age. For us that yellow brick road to the wizard is readily available and much, much shorter: In fact, it is only a hop, hunt and a peck long if we have a computer. Today the Yellow Brick Road simply has a different name: It’s called Google! March 10, 2014
