My stepfather, Marv Berg, passed away yesterday. Marv was a devoted and loving husband to my mom for almost 27 years. And, I think to the end was truly in awe of her. Marv enjoyed travelling the world with my mom and racing cars (without my mom)--and had a joke for every occasion. Together, they rode bikes and went kayaking and enjoyed this chapter of their lives. Marv wrote an automobile review column until not very long ago--and we were always touched when he included our kids in a story! And when we came to town for a visit, he always had some hot car waiting for Andrew to test drive. Marv could never pass up a shrimp cocktail, a corned beef sandwich or a chocolate-covered apricot. And though they had an active social life, he always seemed happiest sitting with my mom watching CNN, Meet The Press and Indians baseball from his favorite chair. Marv was a loyal friend--in fact, he remained best friends with his friend Harold for his entire life. Marvs sense of humor, his kindness and caring made him a welcome member of our family--and a great Papa to our kids. And when referring to me and my brothers, he never called us stepchildren, but, instead, referred to us as his sons and his daughter. I always found that touching. Marv was a special person in our lives, and his presence will truly be missed.
