My #tbt is to Thanksgiving week 2011. Me (pictured) and a friend flew from Houston to Seattle on a last minute flight to buy a 1970 panel bus from a guy on thesamba. Then we preceeded to drive it 1,200+ miles to San Francisco. The guy selling it to my friend was a vw mechanic. He asked how far are you guys driving? we said San Francisco. He said IN THIS!? Yea... not the most comforting response. Haha. He asked if weve ever owned a vw bus before. He just stood there shaking his head when we said No. Lol. In fact the test drive we had just taken was the first time wed ever been in one. Haha. He then pointed us to the nearest autoparts place and made a list for us. Items included fire extinguisher, baling wire, duct tape, belts, metric socket set, wire, jumper cables and oil. We got to San Francisco 5 days later without a single hiccup from the bus. It drove great. It had no heat and we did freeze our asses off in Oregon. We shipped it to Texas from San Francisco and we flew home. This trip is what got me hooked... Best. Trip. EvAR.
