My thought for the day; ‘Products of our Imagination’ We - TopicsExpress

My thought for the day; ‘Products of our Imagination’ We have grown so accustomed to being swamped with advertising messages that we’ve come to embody the messages that inundate us. We are becoming products of our own volition. No generation before us ever felt such a pressing need for whiter teeth; improved physiques, fewer wrinkles; to be younger, stronger or to search for more amusements. We feel that only if we are ‘improved and fortified’ will we be acceptable. We’ve come to view ourselves as marketable commodities and we spend billions each year on window dressing; creating of ourselves a trendy presentation. With implants, subtractions and artificial enhancements we strive for status as we bow before the throne of self-image. The extent of our insecurities can be measured in dollars. Every animal accepts that it was created thus-but man. We are not grateful for the life we are given; but are forever in rebellion that the fates could be so unkind to make us so and so when we’d rather be such and such. We are not happy with the color of our hair or our skin, our physique or the shape of our features. Women seek to enhance the size of their breasts and men compare appendages. Of all the creatures on the Earth none is less satisfied than man despite the fact we spend our lives chasing satisfaction. For we base our worth and expectations upon outward appearance; pomp and circumstance and the homage of others. Mankind is inherently dissatisfied with what we’ve been given; despite the knowledge that we are one-of-a-kind, unique creations. We seek to re-create our image and call it self-realization. So we buy stuff and rearrange things in the attempt to make our dreams come true; content that in doing so will squelch the demons of dissatisfaction that chase us. We’ve taken to heart the message that we need ‘improvement’ or nobody will ever want us… and thus contentment eludes us.
