My view of Ferguson (sorry, its long): I’ve been listening to - TopicsExpress

My view of Ferguson (sorry, its long): I’ve been listening to the police scanner feed from Ferguson, Mo., for the past six hours. I’ve had an interest in the whole mess in Ferguson since I visited the area three ago. I was looking for an airplane to photograph, of course. The town is also a couple of miles from one the largest aircraft manufacturing plants in the country, double bonus. Ferguson looked like a lot of towns that can be found in the south. Not a bad place but it has probably seen better days. Lots of little family businesses scattered amongst chain stores. Nothing really remarkable. If I remember correctly, I grabbed a sandwich at a Subway restaurant there. I found my plane in a park in the neighboring community of Florissant. It had seen better days too. I grabbed a couple of cameras to photograph the plane which sits besides a walking track. Two young ladies, one white and one black, were walking together on the track. When they walked by for the second or third time they stopped, posed back-to-back, and asked me if I was a talent scout for Playboy. They walked off laughing. It was kind of funny. Now I listen to police radio traffic and wonder if the two ladies are still friends. I’m hearing police talk about burning buildings, must be at least 25 by now. The chain stores and the family businesses are going up in flames. Church vans are being burned. A day care center was torched yes, a day care center. I bet the Subway where I ate lunch is no more. All for what? A few months ago a teenager was killed by a police officer. It’s not up to me to decide who was right or wrong. But only a few people were really affected at the time, family and friends of the teenager and police officer and maybe a few others. Now a town is destroyed. I can’t imagine the chain stores will be rebuilt and I doubt many of the family business can afford to rebuild. Life just got harder for everybody in the town. All for what?
