Myriad of ReLALationshi ps ~~ A Special Set Of Artistes Myriad of ReLALationshi ps ~~ A Special Set Of Artistes Mohanlal has quoted once that its a special feeling to with work two different generations or people related to each other in form of husband&wife, mother&son, father&son, mother&daughter etc etc. Eventhough as an actor, the job is same for me as well as for them, I always felt I was lucky to work with such people, especially associating with two different generation of a family. This time the focus is on how many times Mohanlal has worked with such people. Some may not be in a relationship while working with Mohanlal but still just an overview on such associations. The first name that pops up in my mind is the legendary actor Sivaji Ganeshan. Mohanlal has worked with Sivaji in a Malayalam film calledOru Yaathramozhi, directed by Prathap Pothen. Here Mohanlal plays the role of the illicit son of a trader played by Sivaji himself who is waiting to seek revenge on his dad. This emotional drama displayed the chemistry between the two actors. Sivaji oftened praised Mohanlal on numerous occasions for his unique acting skills and its quite evident why he agreed to do this film. Eventhough this combination was first introduced in RajeevnathsSwarnachamaram which got shelved in midst of shooting. In meantime, Sivajis son Prabhu associated with one of the biggest movie of Mohanlals career, Kaalpani. Here Prabhu played the role of an aggressive cellmate to Govardhan with whom he develops friendship. It was noticeable that in both these Malayalam movies, Sivaji n Prabhu played as Tamilians. If working with Sivaji Ganeshan was a legendary experience, then what about Prem Nazeer?. Mohanlal, during his youthful days, acted in numerous films with Mohanlal including the last released movie of Prem Nazeer in form ofKadathanadan Ambadi. In most of the films, Mohanlal, then a newbie, had to play small negative roles where Prem Nazeer will be sharing or simply playing the lead role. But their first film, Sanchari, is still a special one because of the presence of late action star, Jayan. Other than Aatakalaasham, Lal Americayil&Kadathanadan Ambadi, there werent films which contained moments to display their chemistry. Prem Nazeer also wished to direct a film with Mohanlal in lead (which was agreed by the actor) but he expired before it could be materialized. While Prem Nazeers son Shanavas wasnt able to create any impact despite of a royal welcome to the industry. Due to the same reason, there isnt much to talk about the films he associated with Mohanlal like Lal Americayil,Chit ram&most recently China Town eventhough the role ofBhaaryayude Bharthaavuin Chitram is still in our memories due to the films phenomenal success. I dont need to convey much regarding the brilliant pairing of Mohanlal&Mukesh. But along with Mukesh, Mohanlal has associated with his mother, Vijayakumari in the comic caper, Chotta Mumbai, eventhough they didnt any memorable scenes other than the climax. He also worked with Rajendran (bro-in-law of Mukesh) in numerous films as well as his ex wife, Saritha in films like Life Is Beautiful&Anuraagi. Maybe legendary theater artist and state award winner, O Madhavan (Mukeshs father) is missing from the list. Similarly Saikumar has associated with Mohanlal in numerous movies including the role of Lals fun loving father in Chotta Mumbai.While his more illustrious father, Kottarakara Sreedharan Nair associated with Mohanlal once in the role of a church priest inMizhineerpooka l, which happened to be his last movie. Shobha Mohan (sis of Saikumar) and her husband, late Mohan Kumar worked with Mohanlal in Ividam Swargamaanu&Thanmathra respectively. While their son, Vinu Mohan, who is yet to work with Mohanlal in a feature film, worked with Mohanlal in an AD along with Vineeth Sreenivasan. Speaking about Vineeth Sreenivasan, I dont think I need to speak more about Lals association with his dad Poornima Jayaram/ Bhagyaraj, who is reuniting with Mohanlal in his Tamil venture Jilla is considered as Mohanlals first heroine onscreen eventhough they werent the romantic pair. They worked in a number of movies were Mohanlal played the role of the antagonist. I am sure many remembers the romantic number by IlayarajaVaalitezhuthiy a...from Onnanu Nammal featuring this pair. Its a trivia that along with Poornima, her children, Shantanu&Saranya made their Malayalam debut in films featuring Mohanlal. But both Angel John&Photographer werent able to create the success as their moms film did. Many thought Bhagyaraj will complete the circle by making him Malayalam debut in a Mohanlal film but he opted for Mr Marumakan with Dileep. The couple, Sathaar&Jayabharathi played various character roles in films featuring Mohanlal especially during 80s like Adiyozhukukal,N O 20 Madras Mail,Dasharatha m etc etc. Their son Krish Sathar made his debut in a Mohanlal film by Siddhique, Ladies&Gentleman. Urvashi played the female lead in a number of memorable Mohanlal movies like Kalipattam,Bhar atham,Mithunam, Spadikom etc etc. They shared a tremendous onscreen chemistry because of their natural style of acting. Along with Urvashi, her siblings also featured in Mohanlal films. Who can forget Kalpanas cameo in Gaantharvam as the stage artist where both Mohanlal n Kalpana displayed their terrific comic timing?. Her other sister, Kalaranjini acted with Mohanlal inEnte Mohangal Poovaninjuwhere she played the role of the antagonist. While Urvashis brother, Prince aka Nandu acted in Yuvajanolsavam for which he is still remembered for the songInnumente Kannuneeril... Manoj K Jayan, ex husband of Urvashi, was also featured in a number of movies with Mohanlal with most recent one beingLadies&Gentleman. Mohanlal had the luck to work with some of the greatest exponents of acting during his prime. If someone starts a debate regarding who is the best father-son onscreen in Malayalam...Mos t will vote for Thilakan-Mohanl al combination. With number of brilliant moments of acting in films like Kireedom,Spadik om,Chenkol etc etc, even Thilakan himself told that he is not sure whether his real sons have called himAchhamore than Mohanlal n Mammotty. While with his son, Shammi, eventhough Mohanlal has done various movies like Chenkol,Praja,R un Babby Run etc etc...Shammi has also dubbed for a number of memorable antagonists in Mohanlal movies like Devasuram,Thaaz hvaaram,Spadiko m etc etc. While with Bharath Gopi, Mohanlal has not only an actor-actor relationship but also as a director-actor relationship. Bharath Gopi himself quoted thatHe felt extremely comfortable n pleasure while working with Mohanlal in Kaatathe Kilikkoodu. Both had a natural style of acting and thus paved way for great onscreen chemistry. Aakashagopuram, which was the last film by the veteran featured the great chemistry while playing the ageing master and his ruthless disciple. It was through Bhramaram, Murali Gopi made him comeback to Malayalam Cinema after the Rasikan debacle. The movie featured one of the best performances from Mohanlal and Muralis performance was also noticed alongside. Now earning the tag of one of the most sought after scriptwriter, Murali has announced his project with Mohanlal and Rajesh Pillai titledLucifer. One of the memorable roles of Karamana Janardhanan Nair is the role of the manager and guardian to Mohanlals Rajeev Menon in Dasharatham. Just like Innocent in Devasuram, there was a silent father-son relationship between them. Sudheer Karamana, who started to get meaty roles in the industry, shared screen with Mohanlal in films like Red Wine,Ividam Swargmaanu etc etc. Vijayaraghavan played supporting roles in many Mohanlal movies during the last 25 years. But eventhough Vijayaraghavan didnt get an opportunity to work with his dad, N N Pillai, onscreen, Mohanlal had the opportunity in Naadodi. If there is a special case of father-son, it will be Fazil&Fahad Fazil. Mohanlal, who is considered as Fazils greatest discovery ever, had the great oppurtunity to work with Fazil the actor inNookatha Doorathu Kannum Nattu. The talent of the actor in Fazil was clearly seen while he depicts his special experience to Mohanlal and it was a treat to watch Mohanlals reactions to each line of Fazil. Eventhough they have acted in just 1 scene in Red Wine, many are waiting for a film featuring many scenes with Mohanlal&Fahad Fazil together. Eventhough director Bharathan made only 2 films with Mohanlal like Kaatathe Kilikoodu&Thaazhvaaram, his son, Siddharth Bharathan was able to share screen with Mohanlal inSpirit. Hope we can get an oppurtunity to see a Mohanlal film from the talented director. I dont think I need to convey the huge list of movies featuring Siddharths mum and veteran actress,KPAC Lalitha with Mohanlal. Suresh Bhimsingh, son of late actress, Sukumari (with whom Mohanlal has done many films), worked with Mohanlal in films like Yuvrajanolsavam &Cheppu. If there is Mother&Daughter, we can include Lakshmi and her daughter Aishwarya. Regarding Lakshmi, my favourite film featuring the duo will be Bharatham. The climax performance as featuring the deep relationship between sister in law&brother in law gave the movie a classic touch. While Aishwarya paired with Mohanlal in huge hits like Butterflies&Narasimham. Despite of not attaining the heights like her mother, she shared a great chemistry with Lal in those films. Mohanlal also worked with the sisters, Baby Shalini&Baby Shamili inEnte Maamatykuttyamm akku&Harikrishnans/ Nirnayamrespectively just like the Nivedhitha sisters in Thanmathra&Bhramaram. Another section is the husband and wife. If Jayaram and Mohanlal displayed acting brilliance in Adhwaitham, I am confident that more than with Jayaram, his wife Parvathy had the opportunity to be part of many brilliant movies of Mohanlal like Amrithangamaya, Kireedom,Kamala dalam,Ulsava Pittenu etc etc. Biju Menon has been playing many character roles in Mohanlal films like Run Babby Run, Snehaveedu etc etc which were appreciated while Samyuktha Varma acted in Fazils Life Is Beautiful as Mohanlals wife. When Dileep acted his first film with Mohanlal in Varnnapakittu, it was the first Mohanlal release of that year which was a huge hit. The same year ended with Araam Thampuran which happens to be Manju Warriers first film with Mohanlal. Speaking about Manju Warrier, her brother Madhu Warrier has acted with Mohanlal in Wanted&Twenty 20. Now she is all set to make her comeback through another Mohanlal film. Also to add Vaani Vishwanath in Ustaad and her husband Baburaj in Praja. If Priyadarshan formed one of the greatest director-actor combinations of Malayalam Cinema with Mohanlal through various blockbusters like Kilukkam,Chitra m etc etc, his wife Lizzy Priyadarshan was also part of many Mohanlal movies (mostly directed by Priyan himself). I V Sasi, who made most number of Mohanlal movies with Mammotty mostly had his wife Seema playing the female lead in those movies. Now next one is a unique case. Mani Rathnam directedIruvarwhich featured Mohanlal in the lead role. His wife Suhasini wrote the dialogues for the movie and later went onto deliver a brilliant performance in Vaanaprastham. Her father, Chaaruhasan played the role of Mohanlals father in the epic, Guru. Charus brother Kamal Hassan acted with Mohanlal in Unnaipol Oruvan . Kamals current partner, Gauthami, worked with Mohanlal in His Highness Abdullah&Iruvar. Adding to that, Kamals daughter did the music of Unnaipol Oruvan. Just to complete all sorts of relationships, we have Amitabh Bachchan who worked with Mohanlal in two poorly made Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag{Which also had his son Abhishek Bachchan in a cameo}&Kandahar. But his daughter in law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her debut with an eternal classic, Iruvar, opposite to Mohanlal. Late actor Sukumaran acted in films with Mohanlal like Dasharatham,Pin gami etc etc. Who can forget the brothers with contrasting characters in Ulsava Pittenu?. His eldest son, Indrajiths first film with Mohanlal was Baba Kalyani which was followed by Chotta Mumbai,Flash&Twenty 20. Sukumarans wife, Mallika also acted in Chotta Mumbai as Indrajiths mother. Eventhough there werent any scenes together, his wife Poornima also acted in a forgetableUnnathangalil where Mohanlal played a guest role. Now his younger brother, Prithviraj is all set to act in his first Mohanlal film (where he shares the screen) in the next Ranjith film. In his next release Geethanjali, he will be acting alongside Keerthi Sureshkumar, daughter of his good friend cum veteran producer Suresh Kumar. The film also features late Cochin Haneefas twin daughters playing the childhood of Keerthi. I am sure only a few will forget the fact that Sureshs wife Menaka has worked with Mohanlal in a number of movies during 80s. Similarly producer M Ranjiths wife Chippy played the role of Mohanlals loving sister in Spadikom. With Dulquer already creating ripples with a mere photo with his Lal uncle, I am quite sure that a project featuring both will happen. Considering the long list he already possess, it will be incomplete without Mammotty&Dulquer. As Mohanlal says..Angane sambhavikkunath u oru Bhaagyamalle
