Myth: We should just let the people vote on this issue. Fact: We are blessed to have a Representative form of government. That is the form of government America was and is based on, and that is the model Enoch City follows. We vote for our representatives (City Council and Mayor) and they are tasked with making decisions for the electorate at the City level. There is an election this November. There are candidates on the ballot who oppose the tax increase, and would certainly take steps to overturn it. They would also be entitled (as elected representatives) to every single piece of relevant information available at the city offices, unlimited face to face access with those involved in the everyday functions of the city, and the responsibility to participate in determining the direction the city will ultimately take. This is how Representative Government works. We should embrace this blessing, show up in November, and vote for those we feel will steer the city in the direction we desire. If those opposed to the tax increase are elected to office, we at Enoch Citizens for Truth will support them in their new responsibilities and celebrate the fact that Representative Government works and the people have made their voices heard. We at Enoch Citizens for Truth feel very strongly that the petition being circulated defeats the purpose of a Representative Government in that a very small minority can usurp the decision making power we have given our elected officials. We also very strongly feel that the effects of this petition (if successful) will do real damage to the community we love. We simply can not sit idly by and allow those things to happen.
