NEVER by Julana Q. Whitlow 1 John 5:21 “Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.” Apostle John wrote these most important instructions to the Christians in his day but as with all instructions in the Scripture, it is very relevant for us today. Now, I know we would never set out to find someone or something to take God’s place in our life, but sometimes it can happen anyway, unless we keep our guard up: an all-consuming problem occurs, the diagnosis of a devastating illness is given to you or your loved one, you meet the love of your life, you have relationship problems, and the list can go on and on! The one common factor, whether you are experiencing a good thing or a bad thing, is that Satan can use the upheaval/change in your life to distract you from the One that desires your total commitment…and that is God. Yes, we all know how it is to be consumed with either a problem or a joy, but the secret to staying firmly grounded is to NEVER allow your stronghold to be anyone but God; remember that your mind is a battlefield! When we keep our eyes focused upon Him, everything else will fall into place. Just read and digest all the great promises in His Word…then trust Him as you’ve never trusted Him before; He will NEVER fail you! And remember… keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.
