NEW CASTLE, INDIANA — Renee L. Guerrero, 27, 1019 S. 18th St., has been accused of killing her grandmother’s dog, a German shepherd-husky mix named Chance, by beating the dog with a metal bar while it was secured with a leash. When the responding Officer asked why she would attack the dog when it was secured with a leash and posing no immediate threat, Guerrero said the animal had bit her son. Emergency medical workers treated the boy at the scene for what were described as “two minor abrasions above his right hip.” The police officer wrote that Chance, despite the animal’s grave condition, showed no aggression and “had a friendly demeanor to this officer.” An animal control officer took Chance to a local veterinary clinic, where it was confirmed the dog had suffered deep cuts that went into its muscles. A veterinarian tried to suture the wounds, but Chance later died at the clinic, apparently as the result of a seizure caused by a head injury, the report said. PLEASE CONTACT PROSECUTOR.
