NEWS UPDATE @ 3PM WITH Orange Uganda: “FDC/NRM DRAMA?”: FDC’s Ingrid Turinawe has said State House claims of the alleged 400 defectors that crossed to the NRM party on Monday are all ‘drama’. Turinawe has now challenged state house to produce the list of the names and identify any Local Council leader or FDC member among the group. Presidential Communications Assistant, Sarah Kagingo, in response has said she will firmly respond to the allegations very soon. According to a statement from State House, the former opposition members were led by the Deputy RDC Rukungiri district, Ms Harriet Nakamya. HIV PREVALENCE: USAID in partnership with Uganda Health Marketing Group (UHMG), KCCA, Kampala Integrated Counseling and Testing and ARR, have embarked on a drive to decrease the HIV prevalence and to improve the quality of life through early diagnosis and integrated HIV Counseling and Testing services. While Uganda has registered remarkable successes in the fight against HIV and is arguably the most effective in national response to the pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa, recent years show that the HIV infection rate in the country has been on the rise. It is with an estimated 7.3% Ugandans aged 15-49 years being HIV positive according to the Uganda AIDS indicator survey 2011, compared to 6.4% in 2005. “BIG FISH, HARD TO CATCH”: Uganda’s Ethics and Integrity Minister, Simon Lokodo has refuted allegations suggested in a Human Rights Watch report that President Museveni and his government are protecting corrupt officials. Lokodo argued that it is incorrect to say the government is protecting some people, because in some cases, the big fish are hard to catch. The report highlighted the fact that despite numerous corruption scandals worth billions of shillings, no such official implicated has ever served a sentence. FIRE THREAT ‘AVERTED’: Fire threat to the Blue Mountains west of Sydney has been averted for the day, Australian fire officials have said. Fire officials had warned that Wednesdays combination of high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds could lead to more devastation. New South Wales Rural Fire Service Commissioner however warns that the crisis is not yet over as fresh challenges lie ahead in the coming days. PRINCE GEORGE TO BE CHRISTENED: Prince William and his wife Kate have asked seven people to be godparents to their son, Prince George, who will be christened at a major royal family gathering Wednesday, palace officials said. The Archbishop of Canterbury will baptise the three-month-old prince at St James Palace in central London. Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, plan to attend, along with Prince Charles, his wife Camilla, Prince Harry and other royals. NO GOING HOME: An American judge has stopped a Kenyan mother from travelling back home with her 22-month old daughter, saying, Kenya is not safe enough for the child. Ms Waithira Kamau had intended to travel to Kenya with her baby to visit the child’s grandparents and other relatives. However Judge Diane Price of the Napa High Court on Tuesday said the child cannot be guaranteed security while in Kenya. She said security has remained unpredictable following last month’s Westgate Mall terrorist attack.
