NEWS UPDATES AT 3O’CLOCK WITH ORANGE. Kampala Capital City Authority has warned owners of different buildings in the city against operation in the premises amidst poor hygiene. Deputy spokesperson KCCA Robert Kalungu says they closed a number of buildings over the issue but many owners have never presented letters showing that they refurbished them. Any excuses will not be taken into consideration this time round. The body wants to close all buildings with poor hygiene standards such as Lugogo cricket oval and Kyadondo rugby club premises among others. Police has launched an inquiry into how anti-corruption activists smuggled into parliament two piglets tagged with derogatory messages referring to the MPs as MPIGS yesterday. This act raises concerns about security and has since seen 5 police officers attached to parliament, arrested. Deputy Police Spokesperson, Polly Namaye has said they suspect that there was some kind of connivance. A committee has also been instituted to conduct an inquiry into the issue. 7 people who were arrested recently for buying from vendors have this morning been sentenced to one and a half hours of service at Kiteezi garbage dumping site by city hall’s court grade one magistrate Erias Kakooza. They were found guilty of encouraging the illegal trade in the city. Earlier this week, KCCA enforcement officers arrested 24 people for buying goods from vendors down town. The public transport system between Mpeketoni and Lamu has been paralyzed following the fresh attacks in Poromokoni village. Hundreds of passengers fleeing Mpeketoni were stranded in Witu town after buses were barred from travelling into and out of Mpeketoni and Lamu. Other passenger services from Mombasa, Malindi and other parts of Coast have since cancelled their travels to the two towns. Pakistani intelligence officials say a US drone strike has killed at least five people in a rebel hideout in the northwestern tribal region near the Afghan border. Two officials say the missiles had hit a vehicle and a compound in the town of Dandey Darpakhel in North Waziristan earlier today. The strike is the third in the past two weeks as US missile strikes in Pakistan resumed after six months. North Waziristan is home to a mix of local and foreign al-Qaeda-linked fighter groups, who also attack American and NATO troops across the border in Afghanistan. Pakistans military this week launched a long-awaited offensive in the region after the main airport in the commercial city of Karachi was attacked by the Pakistani Taliban.
