NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2014 Well, summer is truly on its way, with extreme heat and the usual Highveld thunderstorms. Our new members joined on Saturday and fortunately our grounds have lots of beautiful trees, so much of the training could be in the comfort of some shade. CLUB ACTIVITY Our annual Walk for CVC was a great success with a colourful display of dogs wearing the Sunflower Foundation bandanas and many smiling owners trailing behind their excited dogs. A big thank you to Martin and Martin for the sponsored prizes, to Virbac for their donation of micro-chips, Dr Kate for donating her time, Elmien from CVC and last, but not least, to The Revival Emporium for loads of enthusiasm and iced tea! We made a whopping R4 726.00 for the SAVA CVC, which is our contribution towards primary healthcare in the disadvantaged communities. Donations of dog food and collars was gratefully received by CVC! An informative article featured in the Pretoria News! The Pretoria Shepherd Dog Club will be celebrating it’s 52nd prize-giving with our closing Christmas club-sponsored braai. The year’s enthusiasm and fun will be highlighted with our second DOG JUMPING COMPETITION. Extra lessons have been arranged every Tuesday until the competition. Michelle and Jacques will be at the club from Tuesday, 11th November at 6pm, which will give you a month in which to practice and hone your skills! We will be training towards the competition each Saturday as well. The course will be divided into three categories, viz. small to medium, medium to large and dogs under a year. PRIZES!!! Ruben has once again arranged for sponsorship of an EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE and a CORDLESS PHONE! Isn’t that FANTASTIC??? Other prizes are sponsored by Royal Canin, Martin and Martin and CVC. It is definitely something to jump towards! You do not only have to enter one dog! More information regarding the finer details will follow soon. The SAVA CVC are looking to open a charity shop in the Pretoria east area. They require premises and thereafter need to stock the shop. Any assistance would be appreciated!!! Contact Elmien - 012-346 1150. Dewald and David will be riding the 94.7 Cycle Race for CVC. If anyone else is interested, please note it in your entry. On a very sad note we had to say good bye to Terence’s Jacqui and Almien and Gian’s Sasha, who both met with tragic accidents. Our thoughts are with you at this very painful time… There is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; But when we are certain of sorrow in store Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and sisters I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear. Rudyard Kipling As usual Miriam walks the Faerie Glen koppie every Friday afternoon. You are all welcome to join her – 083 661 8581. Membership and training fees are now due. Ruben is in the club house every Saturday, alternatively, kindly make an EFT and forward him your proof of payment rubenmuller1959@gmail. PUPPY AND KINDERGARTEN CLASSES We have Puppy Club for pups between the ages of 4 months to 6 months on a Wednesday evening and Puppy Kindergarten for pups of 3 months on a Saturday afternoon.
