NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2013 Hello Campers The spring meeting saw a nice turn out on the DZ, we had 24 members and 8 visitors and 3 chaps sent their apologies. Brandon noted that he is still not scared enough of somebody to go and live in -56°C. Pieter de Jong now has facilities to offer spit-braai’s. Our finances were tabled and it was suggested that we look at moving our fixed deposit to Capitec Bank as they are offering a much better interest rate that what we are getting now. We have heard that the Annual Water Jump is set for Friday 22 November 2013 in Bloem. Some of the ouens went through to Vadim’s place to celebrate the 83rd Anniversary of the Russian Airborne on 2nd August 2013 and by the looks of it, had a “dern” good time. We have a few up and coming events to take note of; Saturday 21st September, Laarsa Ladies Night, for those who have committed; details will follow. On the weekend of 5th & 6th October 2013 Rocky Benade will be hosting the Ultimate Fitness Challenge at his Gym. On Sunday 6th October 2013, there will be a church ceremony at the Russian Orthodox Church in Mid Rand to commemorate the Russian Soldiers who fought and died in the Anglo-Boer War and a celebration of the Church’s 10 Anniversary. The service begins at 09:00, if you are able to make it, please wear your Laarsa Blazer, Tie, Beret (for afters) and Medals. On Friday 11th October 2013 we are supporting the San Michele Home with their Annual Box & Dine, a formal event to be held at the Portuguese Hall on Great North Rd, Benoni at 19:00 for 19:30. Kerry Albertyn has very kindly sponsored a table for 10 Laarsa chaps to attend, thank you Kerry. This was done on condition that Laarsa sponsor R 2000.00 to In His Honour Foundation, for their Annual Kids Camp on the weekend of 28-29 September 2013. Saturday 26th October 2013 sees the Annual 1 Para Bn Reunion being held at Schoemansville Resort at Hartebeespoort Dam. If you have not confirmed with Mike Cronje, then please do so, details are on our website and all over Facebook. Then in November there is the Annual Remembrance Day Parade being held at the Reveille MOTH Shellhole at 10:00 for 10:30, again, Laarsa Blazer, Tie, Beret and Medals to be worn by those attending. In conclusion, our year end spit-braai will be held on Saturday 30th November 2013, venue to be advised. The Phantom of the Flossie for September was awarded to Rocky Benade for coercion in challenging the ouens to do the Ultimate Fitness Challenge, knowing full well that the spirit is willing but the flesh is, well, not quite up to speed at present. Mark Tapson very kindly donated 3 x electronic photo frames for to be raffled for funds for the ladies evening. Thank you, Mark. It was good to see Henrique Mota and Alvaro Magina at the meeting again. Billy Carnell advised that on 8th & 9th November the Hell Angles will be hosting a Poppy Day Drive. Henrique noted that in Portugal there is a gym that does not charge for you to attend but it will bust you 3 Euros for every day that you do not go!, wonder how that would work out here? After a good few jokes, the meeting was closed at 21:38 Well that’s a wrap chaps, we do hope to see you at the next meeting, being held on Thursday 3rd October 2013 “As soon as there is life, there is danger.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.
