NWC ENCOURAGES USE OF LEAK REPORT EMAIL AND TEXT LINE As a special part of its response to the prevailing drought conditions affecting about 120 of its 460 water supply systems islandwide, the National Water Commission (NWC) is not only imploring customers to conserve on their use of water but also to report any leaks seen on the NWC system for them to be repaired as soon as is possible. The new contact mechanisms established especially for the drought are: • Leak Email Address - presidentnwc1@gmail • Leak Text Line - 838-LEAK (5325) • Leak Hotline Numbers - 733- 5655, and 733-5656 These new leak report contacts are in addition to the previously established contacts for the utility including its toll free number (1888-CALL NWC), its website at nwcjamaica and general email address at [email protected]. The public is especially urged to use the email and text facilities whenever possible and avoid the possibility of dropped calls or delays that may be experienced on the telephone calls during peak call periods. The NWC explains that while it does about 3,500 leak repairs on average each month, the aged pipes that make up a large part of its more than 10,000 kilometres distribution network are very susceptible to breakage. Additionally, the NWC explains, the fluctuating pressures and abnormal operating conditions under which the systems are forced to operate during drought also increase the frequency of leaks. This has necessitated the allocation of additional leak repair resources to effectively respond. -END- Contact Information: Corporate Public Relations Department 929-1128
